Orange Popsicles Recipe | Fresh & Refreshing Summer Dessert

Warm weather always brings the same craving — something cold and sweet, ideally more than once a day. The problem is most of what satisfies that craving also tends to undo whatever progress you’ve been making. I got tired of choosing between “enjoy summer” and “stay on track,” so I started making something that let me have both.

These orange popsicles are the result. Fresh orange juice, a bit of zest, a touch of honey, lemon juice, and a spoonful of Greek yogurt for a little creaminess — frozen into something bright, clean, and genuinely refreshing. Nothing about them tastes artificial or overly sweet the way store-bought versions often do.

They’ve become the thing I reach for on hot days when I want something cold without any of the guilt that usually comes attached. Here’s exactly how I make them.

What You’ll Need (makes 6 popsicles)

  • 2 cups (480ml) fresh orange juice
  • Zest of 1 medium orange
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) honey
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) lemon juice
  • A pinch of sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) Greek yogurt

How to Make Them

1. Combine the base.

Pour the fresh orange juice into a mixing bowl or blender, then add the orange zest, honey, lemon juice, Greek yogurt, and a small pinch of sea salt. The zest is what gives these a stronger, fresher citrus flavor than juice alone, the lemon juice brightens everything and keeps it from tasting flat, and the Greek yogurt is what stops these from freezing into plain, hard orange ice.

2. Blend until smooth.

Blend for 20–30 seconds, or whisk thoroughly by hand until the honey and yogurt are fully incorporated. The mixture should look smooth, light orange, and slightly creamy — take your time here, since yogurt that isn’t fully mixed in can cause the popsicles to freeze unevenly.

3. Fill the molds.

Pour the mixture into your popsicle molds, leaving a little space at the top since it expands slightly as it freezes. Insert the sticks, and wipe away any spills around the edges so the finished popsicles come out clean.

4. Freeze until fully firm.

Freeze for at least 5–6 hours, ideally overnight. They need enough time to become completely solid — removing them too early risks breaking them when you try to pop them out of the mold.

5. Remove and enjoy.

Once fully frozen, run the molds under warm water for a few seconds to loosen them, then gently pull the popsicles out and enjoy right away.

Why These Actually Support Staying on Track in Summer

The reason these work better than reaching for regular ice cream or a store-bought popsicle is simple: they’re built from real ingredients, so there’s nothing here working against you. The orange juice provides fiber and natural sugars for a quick, clean source of energy, while the small amount of Greek yogurt adds a bit of protein that makes each popsicle more satisfying — enough that you’re not immediately craving something else right after.

They also don’t leave you with that heavy, sluggish feeling regular ice cream sometimes does. Instead, they feel light and genuinely refreshing, more like your body’s being supported than indulged carelessly. That distinction is exactly what makes it easy to have one on a hot day without any second-guessing.

If summer cravings keep testing your consistency, this is worth keeping in the freezer — proof that staying on track and actually enjoying the season don’t have to be at odds.
